My name is Darlene Morrow and I started this website in 1997 when I first began treatment. I am 51 years old (2005) and live in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

At the time of my first treatment it was interferon only but in 9 months I qualified for the clinical trials with Rebetron. I also did a year of a trial using low dose maintenance interferon. In any case I didn't sustain a response and have suffered permanent nerve damage in my neck as a result. This makes doing computer work painful. However it appears to be slightly improving and I will try to maintain the site.

There's a lot of good info here. You'll find background information and general hepc info. I hope it will be useful to people. I have managed to scrap enough cash together to keep the domain name registered for the next 7 years. So http://www.hepcvsg.org will get you to the place where I am hosting the website. I have run out of room on Geocities so I transferred the data over. Geocities is a wonderful organization which gave me a place to start giving info about hepatitis C when there was little available.

The best Canadian site with the most up-to-date information on everything hepc related is my good friend Sandi's Crusade Against Hepatitis C

I am very sad to report that Dr. Stephen Sacks passed away in November of 2003. He was a great friend to the community and fought fearlessly for better care for his patients. He always spoke his mind regardless of how other people would view what he had to say. But in many dealings with him he was aggressive and forceful in fighting for us. He gave freely of his time and paid our way into conferences so that we could better educate ourselves. He will be sorely missed and my life is richer for having the pleasure of knowing him.

I wish good luck to everyone and hope they find a cure for this disease in our lifetime.

: Today's date is May 1, 2005. I am finished the  hyperthermia treatment in The Netherlands for the hepatitis C. This hyperthermia was a clinical trial and was a one time only operation where the entire body's blood was heated to 41.8C over a period of 7 hours.

This was followed by induction therapy using regular interferon 10 million units a day plus ribavirin (1000mg/day) for one week, 5 million units of interferon plus ribavirin for an additional week then 1.5 micrograms of PEG interferon weekly plus 1000mg daily ribavirin.

I have been having a lot of trouble with the drug side effects but I did go PCR undetectable within one month of beginning treatment and have remained so. I have completed the therapy - April 6 2004 and will update everyone as tests become available. I have to return to Holland in May and stay until September for my final testings in Holland and then the clinical trial commitments are completed.

Take care and may you win your battle with this dragon. Do not let what you cannot do, stop you from doing the things that you.
