This series is based on notes that I took when I attended the Medical Research Council (MRC) HCV Conference in Ottawa on January 15 &16, 1999. While every attempt has been made to maintain accuracy, you must keep in mind that these are only my personal notes.

A Vision of Transformation Through Integration

- CIHR: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research www.cihr.com

This network will be integrated across the country. It will involve scientific disciplines, Health Systems, and national health agendas. It must be in competitive, sustainable Research enterprise. The strategy will evolve and integrate with public health and health care.

How Do We Do It?

1. Time limited funding to incubate Research to/from the networks.

2. Linkages with HIV/AIDS injection drug programming

3. CFI proposals for infrastructure

4. An NCE application in two or three years

5. Fully competitive MRC and NIH grant proposal

6. Perhaps a separate Institute for Infectious Disease and Immunology

The present sources of funding are the MRC, CLF, and the NCIC.

We need to address:

1. how to bring the power of science on HCV

2. create intelligent networks
